On June 21,1813 the battle of Vitoria took place in Spain. The British, Portuguese and the Spanish versus the French forces of Napoleon's Army.
The Allies gained a decisive victory this day, causing the French some 8,000 casualties.
Here is one of the French Grenadiers as he may have looked getting ready for the battle.
This figure was made using most of the parts from the DID "Frank" figure, with a few upgrades by me. The face was highlighted with pastels, and a mustache was added to him.
One of the 1st things that I did was to make a new Shako for him, using the excellent tutorial by Tony Barton. Unfortunately, I believe that the shako is a little on the short side.
I decided to give him a 1810 pattern brass "lozenge" type shako plate like I did for my French Fusillier figure. According to the Osprey book that I was using as reference, the 45th used the 1810 pattern plate.
This figure uses a DML body that has been shortened to 11.25", which equates to about 5'6.5". The shoulders have been modified as well as the chest. The crossbelts have been reworked, as I moved the bayonet scabbard and holder from the right to the left crossbelt. The trousers have been shortened to fit the figure better.
The haversack has been repainted, and a shirt, a pocket knife, spoon, a comb, a bar of lye soap, an oilskin cover, and rations are in it. I have given this figure a wooden drum for a canteen.
thanks for looking,
