I added some changes to the original design idea...I wanted to incorporate the street and sidewalk detail...this way I can mount the whole display on a suitably sized wall sconce or allow it to be a 'free-standing' display... This is a quick set-up to show the parameters I've decided to use; the brick street and sidewalk and curb 'lines' are already etched into the foam...some small debris is already aded atop the waist-high 'crown' on the wall...affixed with acrylic paint...the signs are mounted on thin model airplane plywood and temorarily mounted on the foam wall to flesh out the final location. I'll etch the 'chipped/scarred' away plaster in the upper right hand corner (allowing the underlying 'brick' construction' to show)...then start to paint and weather... I will be adding brick/rock debris on the curb and in the street a la the reference photo above...but I want to be careful not to add too much...this display is actually a little 'busier' than is my usual want, but in this case I think it will help place the figure in an exact historical perspective and location and won't detract from the figure itself... Any thoughts? Bruce

Très belle figurine, beau matériel de qualité avec un bémol sur le ceinturon qui semble être en plastique Dragon ?, dommage tu devrais le remplacer par un DID. J aime bien le brassard pour la détection des gaz !!!!

Hello all... just a couple of progress photos, showing the painted 'texture' added to the lower 'sill' part of this base-in-progress... I wanted to create a different texture on the lower as opposed to upper part of this building wall (I originally tried adding actual sand/dirt to the wall, but the effect was too 'heavy-handed'-not to mention HEAVY) DOH!...then I remembered the paint 'sludge' I made for my FJ helmet 'texturing'...easy, effective, and light... I mixed my 'wall' color (a light blue/gray) with alcohol and baby powder to creat a 'sludge'...this was painted on the 'sill' part of the wall...then left for a few seconds... then thesurface was 'daubed' and 'swirled' with the paint brush...creating the texture i wanted PERFECTLY...and...since it's just paint, it keeps the base light. I then painted the upper part of the wall with the regular paint (the foam has it's own porous texture) creating the visible difference between textures. The 'curb' will be painted a light 'concrete' color, and the street bricks will be painted a darker gray, before the weathering process starts... Hope you like, Bruce

Sorry 'bout the quick multiple posts...but it's raining 'cats and dogs' here today...so the planned work in the yard isn't happening! Also, this gives an indication as to how quickly these foam bases can 'come together' with water-soluble techniques... Paint has now been added (also, I decided to 'cip'some bricks from the street and create a 'shell hole'... The paint appears 'stark' at this point, but the colors will tie together after the 'wash' and 'weathering' process... Thanks for looking, Bruce

| Here's the next step...15 minutes later...the first 'wash'....and 'wipe'... a heavy wash is daubed over the entire surface, then 'daubed' away in a downward strokes...more wash, more strokes...to get the 'streaking'...you can see the wash is heavier in the brick street, and hasn't dried yet...the next step will be a series of drybrushing with various shades of the 'wall' color...becoming increasingly 'lighter' in shade... Then... debris and rubble will be added, along with actual dirt... the signs will be remounted, then a 'dusting' of 'earth' and 'dust' will be airbrushed over the entire base (heavier on the lower surfaces) to 'tie' everything together... | Last installment tonight... Drybrushing complete...rubble and dirt added, then affixed with alcohol and white glue/alcohol mixture...still 'wet'... I'll let this dry overnight before airbrushing 'earth' and 'dust'... i'll also add some 'bullet' 'chips' in the wall... Then VOILA!... Thanks, Bruce |

The lower part of the base has been 'toned' down with a light 'dusting' of 'dust'... the only thing left to do is to paint the edges with the matte black I use for my foam bases... Posed on the base is my D-Day parachute infantry officer (not exactly correct for the base-he would have to lose the gas mask bag and, probably, the gas brassard)...but a 327th GIR guy or an FJR.6 FJ would look right at home here. This is the 'busiest' single figure base I've constructed to this point...I prefer simple bases, but this one has been a good excercise for the large bases I'm planning to display and photograph larger groups of figures. Thanks for looking, Bruce
