Royal Marine 41 Independent Commando,Korea 1950
During the Korean War, between 1950 and 1952, men of 41 Independent Commando, were issued with US M1943 combat clothing and weapons. This made logistical sense, and, moreover, much of the American clothing and equipment was superior to those issued to British forces. However, The Royal Marines retained their boots and their distinctive green berets (sometimes minus cap badges) - even during harsh Korean winter. The sateen cotton jacket was waterproof when issued, but the treatment soon washed out. (from Osprey books)
My Royal Marine figure carries a US .30 calibre M1 Garand self-loading rifle, and is shown wearing US webing plus a cotton ammunition bandolier, slung acroos his chest. Also a british clasp knife. He just received his uniform some days before and don't have time to use and weathering.
