Hello all,
this is a variation on one of my 'Arnhem' bases, that I'm finally getting to come together...I've had the street section already etched, and just needed to run to the local hobby shop and find some suitable G-gauge rail.
This base was cut to fit inside an 8x10 wooden photoframe (this particular frame is actually turned upside down-so the actual dimensions of the foam are, indeed, 8x10).
The base is inspired by this Ron Volstad artwork for DML's 1/35 panzergrenadiers, and, ultimately, DML's 1/6 "Karsten" figure.
Quite frankly, I don't know if this scene is supposed to represent Wolfheze, Osterbeek, or Arnhem proper, regardless, it's on the path to the bridge that, at least, SOME of the paratroopers took.
I finally decided to pick this one up again after one of the suggestions of a member concerning another Belgian/German base; my recent Paratrooper post also gave me a little kick in the pants to continue...
The rail is brass and is trimmed to fit the groove cut into the foam 'street'...
The brick will be earth red, the decorative paving stones and curb will be a concrete color, and it will have a few of the requisite punched leaves gathering at the curb edge.
I've also posed the two paratroopers on the base to give an idea of the final set-up.
The corporal still need a bit of work...blanco, HS and hand repaint (I intend to call this guy "Ginger"-he'll have red hair and moustache), and both guys need new slings for their Stens (BTW, does anyone here have a link to a site that would show what the MKV Sten sling looked like?)
I'll post more pics as this progresses...
Thanks for looking,
Bruce
