Hello all...
The DiD 'William Bowman' HS is EXCELLENT , but, IMO, the beard growth doesn't convince me of his being a 'pilot'...
I like him better as a US paratrooper NCO, pointing out positions to his platoon members who have just assisted in capturing the bridge at Grave, Holland during the opening phases of 'Operation Market Garden.
This unit would later go on to assault and capture the north end of the Nijmegen highway bridge by crossing the Waal River in British assault boats in one of the most daring daylight assaults in US military history.
This bash came about in an attempt to use a spare 'Ricky Foster' DiD M42 uniform...the trousers are darker in color than the M42 jacket (which was not uncommon) and lent itself to depict a Market Garden 504th troooper...
(many, if not most 504th troopers went into 'Market Garden' still equipped with M42 jumpsuits as they didn't participate-as a unit- in the Normandy D-Day drops)
Thanks for looking,
Bruce
